There are many opportunities for you to serve in this ministry!  All we ask is that you have a willing heart and a spirit of obedience and you can play a crucial role in God’s ministry of Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives and Impacting the World. Here is some basic information to help you “get involved.”  

Kairos volunteers come from all walks of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ’s admonition of Matthew 25:36, “I was in prison and you visited me.” If you feel God’s call to minister to the incarcerated as a part of a Kairos team, contact our Recruiting Coordinator to inquire about how you can get involved and find out about qualification and training.  Not all team members serve inside correctional institutions. 

There are many ways beyond being a team member, that you can support a Kairos weekend and help make it be a life changing experience for those who are incarcerated. We call these gifts of love, Agape.

Here are a few ways you can provide Agape love:

All Kairos activities are covered with prayer.  We also create prayer chains for our Weekends to show Participants and Guests how much they are loved by people all over the world.

You can agree to pray for this event and the participants, and have your name and others in your church community added to our prayer chain.  Contact our Agape Coordinator at lukevol@hotmail.com.

Mark your calendars!  September 26, 2024 is the next Cookie Bake for Delivery to the trustee camps at Clemens Unit (October 3-6, 2024, Kairos #31)  We will meet in the First Baptist Church (Lake Jackson) gym and kitchen at 8:00am to bake and bag cookies.  The cookies will then be delivered to all trustees at Clemens Unit.    If you are able to help, please call Dennis Leveron at 979-235-0487.

For a typical Kairos weekend, we may need up to 5,000 dozen cookies …that’s 60,000 cookies! Homemade cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God’s concern for a group of people who seldom encounter either in the course of their daily lives. Your loving sacrifice will provide “bread” that shines the Light of God’s Grace into the darkest corners of a prison unit.   May God bless you for the gift of baking!  Different institutions have different rules concerning cookies, but if they allow cookies, you can guarantee that they’ll allow chocolate chip!  Contact is leverondennis@gmail.com for more information.

All Kairos activities are funded by donations. Consider making a financial donation.  The cost for each weekend is in excess of $6000.  A gift of $5 equates to providing a single meal for a participant.  Any size gift would be most appreciated.  We are a 100% volunteer organization.  This means your tax-deductible donations will be used exclusively to pay for proper and legitimate ministry expenses.  If you would like to support this ministry by your donation, you may choose to mail a check or make a payment through our ONLINE DONATION SYSTEM.

IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER:
If you are 70 ½ or older, an IRA charitable rollover is a way you can help satisfy your required minimum distribution and help us continue our work and benefit this year.

Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover:

  1. Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to our organization
  2. Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
  3. Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
  4. Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts.
  5. Help further the work and mission of our organization.

How an IRA charitable rollover gift works:

  1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to us.
  2. Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to our organization to help continue our important work.
  3. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
  4. Please contact us if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.

Create Posters and/or Placemats as "Agape"

Provide a “poster” or “placemats” showing your love and support. You may only use colors to decorate, no stickers or sparkles.  This could be a wonderful activity for a Sunday School class to take on; over the course of each weekend we use over 300 placemats.  Contact lukevol@hotmail.com for more information.

Attend a Closing

The Kairos weekend ends with a closing event where participants share how the weekend has been meaningful to them. We promise that this will be an experience you will never forget.  You must be 18 years or older and submit an application to be approved to attend the Closing.  Contact Luke Vollemaere for application submission info at lukevol@hotmail.com.

 

Given that the Closing occurs in a prison setting, those attending a Closing must adhere to rules of conduct provided below.

YOU SHOULD PLAN TO BE AT THE CLEMENS UNIT ON THE SUNDAY OF THE WEEKEND @ 1:30 PM. 

RULES OF CONDUCT FOR THOSE ATTENDING A CLOSING AT THE CLEMENS UNIT

1.  No visitor under eighteen years of age is allowed in the unit.
2. You may not be on a visitor list for anyone at the Clemens Unit.
3. Dress appropriately, conservatively and  modestly.

 Do not wear all white.
 No shorts
 No open toed shoes
 No slip on shoes without a heel strap
 Shirts with a collar.

4.  Do not bring anything to the gate except for your driver’s license.
5.  The driver of the vehicle must lock the vehicle and may bring their car keys in a pants or dress pocket.
6.  Leave all purses, billfolds, watches, jewelry, Bibles, pens, mints, candy, medicines and anything else in your locked vehicle. Do not forget your Texas Driver’s License (you must have it to be allowed into the Unit).
7.   Be certain that your vehicle is free of any and all firearms and ammunition.
8.   There is no smoking anywhere on the Clemens Unit premises . That includes outside, except for a designated area.
9.   There is to be no physical contact between visitors and residents (offenders) during your time in the Unit.
10.  Follow “EL NINO” as near as possible….Except for License… Nothing In—Nothing Out”.
